Usage Note
Fondé (feminine fondée) means that something rests on solid grounds — a complaint, a belief, or a decision. The phrase être fondé à + infinitive means 'to have grounds to' do something. It contrasts with infondé ('unfounded'). Fondé de pouvoir is a legal term for an authorised representative.
