Usage Note
Fleur is feminine. The common expression dans la fleur de l'âge means in the prime of life. À fleur de peau (literally 'at skin-flower level') describes hypersensitivity or emotions very close to the surface. The adjective fleuri means flowery or in bloom, and fleurir is the verb to bloom or to flourish. France's national flower tradition makes floral vocabulary culturally prominent.
