Usage Note

Fertile describes land capable of supporting crops or organisms capable of reproducing; by extension it describes a mind or period full of ideas and output (une imagination fertile). It is invariable for gender — both un sol fertile and une terre fertile use the same form. The noun is la fertilité and the verb is fertiliser (to fertilize).
