Usage Note

Fastidieux is a false friend: it does NOT mean 'fastidious' (which is méticuleux or pointilleux in French) but rather 'tedious, mind-numbingly dull'. The feminine form is fastidieuse. It is a formal, written-register word often used to describe repetitive administrative tasks or overly detailed processes.
