Usage Note
Excellent is a high-register adjective of praise. The feminine form is excellente, and the final 't' is silent in both. The related noun excellence is used in the formal address Son Excellence (His/Her Excellency) and in the phrase par excellence — which French exported directly into English. The adverb is excellemment.
