Entrepreneur entered English from French and retains the same spelling in both languages. In French it originally and still means a building contractor (entrepreneur en bâtiment) as well as the modern sense of a business founder. The feminine form entrepreneuse exists but entrepreneure is increasingly preferred in inclusive writing.
