Usage Note

Ensuivre is a formal, near-defective verb used almost exclusively in the third-person reflexive form s'ensuivre meaning 'to follow as a consequence'. The common construction is il s'ensuit que… (it follows that…). Outside literary or legal French, résulter or suivre are more common.
