Encoder means to convert information into a coded format, used in computing, linguistics, and communications. Encoder des données is the standard IT phrase for encoding data. The reverse process is décoder. In Belgian French, encoder is also widely used informally to mean 'to input data' or 'to type into a form', a usage not common in France.
