Enchaîné is the past participle of enchaîner ('to chain, to link') used as an adjective. It can be literal (un prisonnier enchaîné — 'a chained prisoner') or figurative (enchaîné à sa routine — 'chained to one's routine'). In film editing, un fondu enchaîné is a 'cross-fade' or 'dissolve' transition.
