Usage Note

Encens is used for the aromatic resin burned in religious ceremonies — Catholic mass, Buddhist temples, or spiritual rituals. The final s is silent. Encensoir is the censer (the hanging vessel that swings it), and encenser figuratively means 'to lavish praise on.'
