Usage Note
Déesse is the feminine form of dieu (god); the plural is déesses. It is used both literally in mythology and figuratively to describe a strikingly beautiful woman, as in elle est une vraie déesse. French does not capitalize common nouns for deities: une déesse grecque (a Greek goddess).
