Distorsion is used in physics (signal/sound distortion), optics, and figuratively for a mismatch or gap: une distorsion entre les attentes et la réalité — 'a gap between expectations and reality'. In guitar culture, la distorsion is the overdrive effect beloved in rock. The plural is distorsions.
