Usage Note

Différer has two distinct uses: les opinions diffèrent (opinions differ) and différer une décision (to postpone a decision). The first is intransitive; the second is transitive. Do not confuse with the adjective différent; the verb conjugates as a regular -er verb with an accent shift.
