Usage Note

Dialoguer implies an exchange between two parties and often carries a sense of seeking mutual understanding, especially in political or diplomatic contexts: dialoguer avec l'opposition ('to engage in dialogue with the opposition'). The related noun dialogue is far more common; dialoguer has a slightly formal ring in everyday speech.
