Usage Note

Densité in French is a dimensionless ratio (relative density) comparing a substance to water or air, distinct from masse volumique (f), which is mass per unit volume. It is also used in demography (densité de population — population density). France has one of the lower population densities in western Europe at roughly 120 people per km².
