Usage Note
Désolé is the past participle of désoler used as an adjective meaning 'sorry.' It is more formal and heartfelt than pardon or excuse-moi. The feminine form is désolée. In tone it sits between casual excuse-moi and the stronger je suis vraiment désolé ('I am truly sorry').
