Also means
to deregulate
Usage Note
Dérégler means both to knock a device or mechanism out of adjustment and, more broadly, to disrupt a system or routine. Dérégler une horloge means 'to put a clock out of time'; dérégler l'économie means 'to disrupt the economy'. The reflexive se dérégler describes something going haywire on its own. Do not confuse with déréglementer (to deregulate as policy).
Examples
"Le décalage horaire a complètement déréglé son sommeil."
Natural Translation
The jet lag completely disrupted his sleep.
