Cul-terreux is a pejorative slang term for a rural peasant or unsophisticated country person, literally 'muddy bottom'. It is considered quite rude and should be used with care. The plural is culs-terreux. The equivalent informal English is 'hick' or 'yokel'. Avoid in polite conversation.
