Usage Note

Crapule is a strong term of disapproval for a dishonest or villainous person. Although grammatically feminine (une crapule), it applies to people of any gender. The adjective derived from it, crapuleux/crapuleuse, means 'sordid' or 'villainous', often appearing in the phrase un crime crapuleux (a sordid, greed-motivated crime).
