Usage Note

Complot is a secret plan by a group to do something harmful or illegal — a conspiracy or plot. Fomenter un complot ('to hatch a plot') and déjouer un complot ('to foil a plot') are standard collocations. The verb comploter means to conspire, and complotiste has recently become the French word for a conspiracy theorist.
