Chèque is the French spelling of the bank cheque (British) or check (American). The phrase faire un chèque means 'to write a cheque'. A blank cheque is un chèque en blanc, used both literally and figuratively ('carte blanche'). Chèque-cadeau means 'gift voucher'. Cheques remain more common in France than in many other countries.
