cesse

ceasing, stopping

noun sess Less Common

Usage Note

Cesse almost never appears alone — it lives in fixed phrases. Sans cesse means 'without ceasing', 'constantly'. N'avoir de cesse que means 'to not rest until'. Outside these fixed expressions, the word is rarely used independently, making it a largely idiomatic rather than compositional noun.
