Usage Note

Catalan (capital C for the person or people, lower case for the language or adjective) refers to the Romance language spoken in Catalonia, Valencia, and the Balearic Islands, as well as in Roussillon in southern France. French Catalonia (Catalogne française) has a small Catalan-speaking community. As an adjective (un accent catalan) it is written lower-case.
