Usage Note
Bottine is a short boot that covers the ankle, distinct from a full botte (knee-high boot). It can refer to both fashion ankle boots and practical short boots. The diminutive of botte, it is exclusively feminine. In Québécois French, bottine can also refer colloquially to a soccer shoe.
