fib, tall tale

noun boh-BAHR Rare

Usage Note

Bobard is an informal/colloquial word for a lie or exaggerated story — softer than mensonge (lie) and implying something absurd rather than malicious. The plural des bobards is very common in conversational French. It is masculine: un bobard. A rough English equivalent is 'a load of baloney' or 'a porky pie' (British slang).
