Usage Note

biologie covers the academic discipline and is used in school timetables (cours de biologie) as well as in everyday speech. The shortened form bio is used colloquially for the subject in school and also — in a completely unrelated sense — for 'organic' food (produits bio). A biologist is un/une biologiste.
