Baver literally describes saliva running from the mouth, used of babies, dogs, or someone asleep. The derived noun bave means 'drool' or 'slime' (also used for snail slime). Colloquially, en baver means 'to have a hard time' — il en a bavé pour obtenir ce poste ('he had a rough time getting that job').
