Bacon in French refers specifically to the thin, smoked and cured pork strips familiar from English-speaking cuisine. Traditional French cured pork is more often called lardons (cubed) or lard fumé (smoked pork belly); bacon was adopted with the breakfast dish. The word is invariable and always masculine.
