Usage Note
Atrocement intensifies descriptions of pain, ugliness, or quality in a strongly negative way. It can mean 'horribly' (elle souffre atrocement — she is suffering terribly) or colloquially 'extremely badly' (il chante atrocement). It derives from atroce (atrocious), which itself comes from Latin atrox.
