Usage Note
Affligé describes a person overcome by deep sorrow or suffering, often in response to a loss or misfortune. It is the past participle of affliger used as an adjective. Affligé de can mean burdened with a condition: affligé d'un défaut grave (plagued by a serious flaw). The feminine form is affligée.
