Usage Note
Affectif describes matters relating to emotions or feelings rather than reason. The feminine is affective. It is common in psychological and educational contexts — le développement affectif (emotional development) — and in phrases like une relation affective (an emotional bond). The noun l'affectivité refers to one's overall emotional life. It is more clinical than émotionnel and less dramatic than passionnel.
