Émeute refers to a public riot or civil disturbance. The final 'te' is silent: eh-MUHT. The related verb is s'émeutier (rare) — more commonly one says des émeutes ont éclaté ('riots broke out'). A participant is called an émeutier (m) / émeutière (f).
