Usage Note

Éloquent describes a speaker or speech that expresses ideas clearly and persuasively. It can also apply figuratively to a gesture, a silence, or data: un silence éloquent (a telling silence), des chiffres éloquents (figures that speak for themselves). The feminine form is éloquente; the noun is l'éloquence.
