Usage Note
écrouler is almost always used reflexively as s'écrouler — the non-reflexive form is rare. It means to collapse physically (le bâtiment s'est écroulé) or emotionally (il s'est écroulé en larmes = he broke down in tears). The noun écroulement (m) means collapse.
