Usage Note
Volatiliser has a literal chemical sense — to vaporise a substance — and a widely used reflexive figurative sense: se volatiliser means 'to vanish into thin air', often said of a person who disappears without a trace. The reflexive form is far more common in everyday speech than the transitive use.
