Usage Note
Vodka is feminine in French (une vodka, la vodka), unlike in English where it is uncountable. Ordering une vodka in a bar means a measure of vodka. The word arrived via Russian водка (diminutive of вода, 'water'). It is one of the few Russian loanwords in everyday French.
Examples
"Elle commanda une vodka avec du jus d'orange."
Natural Translation
She ordered a vodka with orange juice.
