Usage Note

Vermouth is a fortified, aromatised wine flavoured with botanicals including wormwood (l'absinthe). It is an essential ingredient in classic cocktails such as the Martini and the Negroni. In France, le vermouth is also consumed as an apéritif on its own, often with ice and a slice of orange. The leading French brand is Noilly Prat, produced in Marseillan.
