Veine means a blood vessel in anatomy, but in everyday speech it very commonly means luck: avoir de la veine means 'to be lucky,' and quelle veine! is an exclamation of good fortune. The geological sense (a vein of ore) also exists. The slang sense of luck is informal and not used in formal writing.
