Trappe refers to a hinged door set in a floor, ceiling, or wall — une trappe dans le plancher ('a trapdoor in the floor'). It is also the name of a strict monastic order (la Trappe), giving rise to trappiste (Trappist monk or Trappist beer). Do not confuse with un piège (a trap/snare), which is the word for a hunting or figurative trap.
