Usage Note

Tellement intensifies adjectives, adverbs, and verbs, and is often more emphatic than très or si. Before a noun it pairs with de: tellement de monde (so many people). It can introduce a result clause: il est tellement fatigué qu'il dort debout (he is so tired he's falling asleep standing up). With adjectives and adverbs si is interchangeable (si fatigué), but only tellement can intensify a plain verb (il travaille tellement).
