Usage Note

syndrome is used in medical contexts (syndrome de Down, syndrome grippal) and figuratively in everyday language — le syndrome de la page blanche ('writer's block', literally 'blank-page syndrome'). It is always masculine. The plural is syndromes with a regular -s.
