Usage Note

Surtout emphasises priority or importance, equivalent to 'above all', 'especially', or 'most of all'. It frequently introduces warnings or emphatic instructions: surtout ne fais pas ça = 'whatever you do, don't do that'. It can also mean 'mostly' when describing a predominant characteristic.
