supplier

beg

verb sü-plee-EH Less Common

Also means

implore

Usage Note

Supplier means to beg or implore with emotional urgency — it is stronger than simply asking (demander). It is often followed by de + infinitive: je te supplie de rester ('I beg you to stay'). Do not confuse it with fournir (to supply goods); the English 'supply' and French supplier are false friends.

Examples

"Je vous supplie de m'écouter."

Natural Translation

I beg you to listen to me.

Literal Translation

I you beg to me-listen
