su

known, found out

adjective SEW Rare

Usage Note

Su is the past participle of savoir used as an adjective, mainly in the fixed phrase au vu et au su de tous ('openly, in full view and knowledge of everyone'). Outside this expression it is quite rare as a standalone adjective. Do not confuse with vu (past participle of voir), with which it often pairs in that same idiom.

Examples

"Au vu et au su de tout le monde, il partait."

Natural Translation

In full view and knowledge of everyone, he was leaving.
