Usage Note
Souvenir is almost always used reflexively as se souvenir de — 'to remember something.' The standalone noun un souvenir means a memory or keepsake, which is why English borrowed it. Don't confuse the verb construction with se rappeler, which is a near synonym but takes a direct object instead of de.
Examples
"Je me souviens de cette nuit."
Natural Translation
I remember that night.
Literal Translation
I myself remember of that night.
