Soutif is a colloquial clipping of soutien-gorge (bra). It is widely used in informal speech among women and in casual conversation but is inappropriate in formal contexts. The standard term soutien-gorge is masculine despite referring to a garment typically worn by women; the plural is soutiens-gorge.
