Usage Note
Sir in French is a direct borrowing of the English honorific, used when addressing or referring to a British or other English-speaking knight or baronet. It is not a native French title and does not replace monsieur in French contexts. In subtitles and historical texts it appears untranslated before the holder's name.
Examples
"Il a été fait sir par la reine."
Natural Translation
He was made a sir by the queen.
