réellement

really, truly

adverb reh-el-MAHN Less Common

Usage Note

Réellement is more formal than vraiment and emphasises that something is genuine or factual (cela s'est réellement passé, 'that really happened'). It is often used to counter doubt or disbelief. The adjective réel/réelle ('real') is its base, and the noun réalité ('reality') is closely related.

Examples
