Rompu most commonly appears in the expression rompu à meaning 'well-versed in' or 'accustomed to through long practice', as in rompu aux négociations (seasoned in negotiations). It also appears in brisé et rompu (broken and exhausted). The feminine form is rompue, and it is the past participle of the verb rompre (to break, to snap).
