Usage Note

Ressort has two main senses: a coiled mechanical spring (un ressort de montre = a watch spring) and a 'resort' or area of competence (du ressort de = within the jurisdiction/purview of). The phrase faire ressort means to spring back. It is distinct from the verb ressortir (to go out again, or to stand out). The final t is silent.
